Water treatment system for a tunnel in New York


This project was to create a water treatment system to be installed in a tunnel under construction. The capacity of this system is 450 GPM and eliminates sedimentation in the dewatering piping and eliminates the need to clean the discharge line. It also facilitates water treatment at the final treatment plant.

For this project, Technosub's mandate was to design and manufacture a dewatering system for a gallery created with a tunnel boring machine for the repair of the New York City aqueduct. The system includes pumps at the TBM head that deliver water to a 450 GPM sludge treatment system. The water treated by this system is then pumped to the surface, 1000 feet higher, thanks to a system of 3 multi-stage pumps of 800 HP capable of pumping from 2400 to 6500 GPM. The sludge is also pumped to the surface via another system.
